Echo Canyon Summit Trail Arizona
Today I woke up with a hankering for great Mexican food. Immediately I thought about the state of Arizona. One thing my wife and I always enjoy is the amazing food after a grueling hike. After we do some hiking on Pike’s Peak we love to eat at a local pizza joint. But, the food isn’t near as good if the hike you attempt isn’t difficult. That is why this morning I decided to search out one of the more difficult hikes in the Phoenix area, Echo Canyon Summit Trail.
Echo Canyon Summit Trail is a 2.5 mile out and back trail with an elevation gain of just under 2,000 feet. Every website I visited said that this was a heavily trafficked hike. These sites also said that this hike is for very experienced adventurers only. Echo Canyon Summit Trail is found on Camelback Mountain right outside Phoenix. What makes this hike so grueling in the summer is the extreme heat and complete lack of shade. One article I came across wrote about how the citizens of Phoenix are urging better markings for Echo Canyon Summit Trail. So if you attempt this trail be prepared to not have the best markings to guide you.
With all of that being said Echo Canyon Summit Trail looks to be a great trail to attempt. Along the trail, you will have the opportunity to gaze across the Phoenix metro area. There are beautiful wildflowers for you to see on your hike. Birding is also a big thing on this trail as well. As expected on a heavily trafficked hike, you can expect to see a ton of hikers and also some rock climbers. From what I can see this looks like an amazing hike to knock out and then go grab some amazing Mexican food.
