Skyline Trail Broken Bow Oklahoma

Good morning Trail Climb Nation! This weekend I had the chance to explore a part of Oklahoma I had never been to. My wife surprised me with a two day getaway to Broken Bow. I know a lot of people assume Oklahoma is completely flat and cows outnumber people but sometimes you find a place that you just wish everyone could see. Broken Bow doesn’t look like the Oklahoma people think exists. Broken Bow is full of nature, beauty, and small town charm. My wife and I didn’t get to do too much hiking due to the weather but it was an amazing getaway.

While researching what trail we should knock out on our relatively small window I came across the Skyline Trail. The Skyline Trail looked like the kind of hike my wife and I would get up early for. In terms of hiking in Oklahoma, this seems to be one of the better hikes. It is a 12 mile hike that is described as a strenuous trail. Expect to gain 2,300 feet of elevation on this hike. When you combine the elevation with the distance I can see why this hike is labeled strenuous. Don’t let that discourage you though! If you take on the Skyline Trail you will be rewarded with amazing views of nature, a river, and a waterfall. A huge plus for a trail of this length is that dogs are allowed on this trail with a leash. So head down to Broken Bow with your four legged friend and enjoy the surprise that Oklahoma has to offer.

The Skyline Trail currently has a bridge that has been washed out, so plan on a mandatory river crossing if you plan on finishing this hike. Plan accordingly! Bring a change of clothes and make sure to go on a warm day!
